Installing Wainscotting Decorative Molding Tutorial Part 6 of 9

How to build and install wainscotting constructed from decorative molding

Installing the decorative molding frames: Cutting the reference legs.

Preparations

First we're going to cut out two reference frames for our job. One 18" reference framing leg and one 20" reference framing leg.

Step 1) place your frame molding on the saw with the inside edge facing away from the fence. Cut out the first 45 degree section.
Step 2) Measure the appropriate dimension for the frame length and mark the framing leg with a pencil or marker.

Step 3) Flip the molding over so that the excess is now to the right. The inside edge of the picture frame should still facing away from the fence. Cut the other 45 and you now have your picture frame segment.

Repeat the above procedure for the other reference leg.

Mark reference on the back of each of frame segments. Do a quick confirmation of the angle after you've cut the first two segments. You can confirm the angle by placing them in the framing square and verifying that you do indeed still have a perfect 90. Also confirm that the lengths that you need correspond to the length depicted by Length X in the figure..

If everything went well with the reference cuts then it's time to cut out all the material we'll need and build the picture frames.
